Summary of the locations of Camp Thirteen

  • Camp Thirteen was located at Nan Kou (now Nankou) [lat. 24-16, long. 115-59], Kwangtung (now Guangdong) Province

Camp Thirteen was located 10 miles west of Meihsien (now Meixian) at Nan Kou (now Nankou) [lat. 24-16, long. 115-59], Kwangtung (now Guangdong) Province.  Meihsien was on the Han River and 75 miles north-northwest of the port of Swatow (now Shantou); it was the headquarters for coastal intelligence Net #5.

In mid-July, 1945, a group of 1,112 Chinese soldiers were waiting at Nan Kou for American instructors as well as arms, ammunition, and equipment.  The plan was that these men, when trained, would work along side Column 1 of Chinese Commando Army; the target objectives were the Canton-Hankow (now Guangzhou-Hankou) Railroad in particular and the Canton area in general.

The war ended before this camp began classes.
